Each of these people played a role in shaping American history.
Broward County Library (BCL) is celebrating International Women's Day and National Women's History Month in March 2021. In keeping with the 2021 International Women’s Day theme #ChoosetoChallenge, BCL is hosting a series of online programs that encourage women and girls to challenge themselves in new and exciting ways.
This event is part of BCL’s multi-part #ChooseToChallenge female-focused educational series. In this session, you will see a story from different perspectives. In 1955, in a simple act of defiance, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Storyteller Linda Gorham tells this powerful and riveting story through the eyes of three people: Claudette Colvin, the 15 year old African-American teenager who was arrested on a bus six months before Parks, James Blake the white bus driver and 42 year old Rosa Parks. Each of these people played a role in shaping American history. This program was developed as a part of a grant from the Chicago Tribune Freedom Museum.
For the past 30 years Linda Gorham has engaged audiences internationally with poignant and humorous family stories; interactive folktales; notably twisted fairy tales; and riveting, well-researched historical stories. Each performance is infused with Linda’s unconventional humor and her signature ‘sophisticated attitude’.
