Keynote Presentation: Retired General Nolen Bivens will conduct an online presentation related to Memorial Day, art, and mental health. General Bivens spoke at the first annual Broward County Library Veterans Festival and JROTC Cadet Day in 2018. Supporting Veterans, military service members, and families through coordinated arts and healing programming creates healthier, enriched, and invigorated communities of local businesses, military personnel, civilians, and artists, and those suffering mental health issues.
Artists' Live Demonstrations: Young at Art Museum will vet four local artists to create art live during the program.
Dance Tribute: AlonzoWill Creative Dance Company will coordinate, choreograph, and perform an original dance work dedicated to Veterans for the Memorial Day Ceremony. Alonzo Williams is a choreographer, dancer, educator, former veterans resource coordinator, and a curator of many artistic disciplines. He is a graduate of NSU class of 2017, with a B.A. in Dance and an M.S. in Higher Education.
Musical Performance: Matthew Sabatella connects people with music that is woven into the fabric of the United States. Carrying on the tradition of old-time, pre-bluegrass string bands and songsters, he raises the roof with traditional folk songs, fiddle tunes, old-time country, and bluegrass. Matthew Sabatella will perform live patriotic songs to pay tribute during the Memorial Day Ceremony.
Mental Health Presentation: Representatives from Miami VA Healthcare System will conduct a live presentation addressing mental health, Memorial Day, and its services. Participants will learn how to address mental health issues and obtain free services from Miami VA.
