Celebrate National Native American Heritage Month with authentic experiences and performances!
Broward County Library (BCL) is excited to recognize and host National Native American Heritage Month.
"Thru the Lens of Ochehache: A Rediscovery of Seminole History" by Daniel Tommie. Daniel Tommie, member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, will share his journey of cultural exploration as he rediscovered ancestral knowledge through carving traditional dugout canoes. He will talk about his childhood memories of his grandparents who had the strongest influence of his young life. He will mention the struggles & survival of Seminole wars, the realities of climate challenges, and other issues & matters Indigenous citizens find themselves in.
Native American History and Modern Day Dances" by Mitchelene Big Man. Mitchelene Big Man will discuss Native American history. Furthermore, Mitchelene Big Man will lead a group choreographed Native American dance sequence. Mitchelene Big Man will highlight Native American apparel during the program.
