Kim Heise, Artist statement "I'm a watercolor artist who paints Florida native plants and animals. I grew up in South Florida and saw the habitat destruction firsthand. Art became a way for me to feel connected with the natural world, as well as a way for me to share my love for these species with others and support conservation efforts. The delicacy of watercolor helps me to capture intricate details, and to depict native species with beauty and scientific accuracy. I'm also passionate about Florida environmental conservation, and I often work with others on projects with conservation goals. My work has been used to help raise awareness about threatened species, engage the community in conservation efforts, and educate children and adults. I've helped create coloring books, trail signs, maps, logos, trail guides, public murals and other resources. I hope my work inspires people to know, love and protect our natural resources." |
