Some prominent African American artists, musicians, and singers include: Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, and Chuck Berry.
The Friends of the Lauderdale Lakes Library’s mission is to assist in the promotion and development of library programs; to create public interest in the Broward County Library; to promote understanding of tis services and needs; to foster public support and funding for the continuing development of the library; to stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments and bequests; and to encourage public interest in applying to obtain their own personal library card.
To raise money for the library, the Friends sponsor on-going book fairs and various events throughout the year.
