Dr. Kim D. Harris will guide participants to design and create mini "freedom quilt" mixed media panels in celebration of Juneteenth.
Calling all makers! Create "freedom quilt" panels using paper collage techniques to reflect the themes of freedom, resilience, and cultural pride inspired by the African-American quilting tradition.
Dr. Kim D. Harris, Ed.D., is an educator, multidisciplinary artist, certified yoga instructor, storyteller, author, and the Artistic Director of The Creative You, a creative hub that strives to build capacity for community by targeting promising youths who thrive to survive in at-risk situations. As a lifelong learner Dr. Kimme is on a journey to plant seeds in others to be change agents for the 21st century and beyond via the arts. The Creative You is a grassroots initiative that was birthed by Dr. Kim D. Harris in 2014. This initiative promotes cultural sustainability and heritage preservation through all phases of the arts via African and Indigenous concepts and perspectives. The mission and vision of The Creative You is for all people to tap into the creativity that is inside of them. Dr. Kim believes, “when people are placed in the right environment, given the right materials, engage with the right discussions, filled with the right inspiration and motivation they can create pieces that rightfully reflect who they are culturally and spiritually.”
