Covering the beginning basics, participants will learn basic tenets of family history research - constructing family pedigree charts (tree), genealogy terms, getting started and organization tools.
The intention is to educate attendees on the basics of researching their family histories. Participants will learn basic genealogy vocabulary, discuss how to get started, obtain organizational tools, acquire effective online communication techniques, and learn about research basics and vital records such as birth, church, marriage, and death certificates.
Other sessions will provide attendees workshops on topics like family heirlooms, memoirs, military records, and government documents such as the National Archives, Library of Congress, ethnic family history websites, medical genealogy, the National Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Society of Broward County, History Ft. Lauderdale, Library of Florida State, local historical societies, and Broward County Library's resources, and global sites.
