Pop culture has a history of sensationalism and parody. The true mystery of this Pharaoh is what’s real, what’s fake, what’s exciting, and what’s frankly mundane. Join us in a celebratory quiz where you have the chance to walk away with your head feeling as big as his ever-iconic mask itself!
100 years ago, the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered in the Valley of the Kings. Mostly untouched by thieves, it became the first largely intact royal burial from ancient Egypt to be discovered, ultimately leading to a renewed interest in ancient Egypt among the public and rocketing the young Pharaoh to pop culture stardom, joining the ranks of figures such as Ramesses the Great and Cleopatra. His burial mask alone is among Egypt’s most famous iconography; try visualizing an Egyptian mask, and it is probably his, whether you recognize it as such or not.
