As part of resident artist Allison Bolah's installation project at The Storefront, join us for a unique, fun, and sophisticated look into "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
EULA League is a Conceptual art working group focused on the æsthetics and performance of language to consider and act on texts that shape or describe life in South Florida and in the United States.
The Great Gatsby, now in its 100th of publication, is the ultimate "end-user license agreement" for life in the United States and pursuit of the American Dream. Rather that consider Jay Gatsby's "extraordinary gift for hope" and the "romantic possibilities" of his parties as analogs for our own fantastic aspirations, this session of EULA League looks at the dynamics of "what preyed on Gatsby", the characters, occurrences, and phenomena that, in the final words of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, "on the lower frequencies", speak to us.
Allison’s interdisciplinary practice draws on her experiences in literature and photography; in installations of video, sound, and paper-based objects, she documents the ways that gesture and language are shaped into specific narratives. Allison focuses on her work’s dialogues within her African Diasporic and other communities. Thus, she seeks opportunities to share her work in non-traditional spaces. Allison was born in Alberta, Canada and lives in South Florida. She received her MFA in Visual Studies from Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
