Join HUED SONGS at the African American Research Library & Cultural Center for monthly creative placemaking workshops that blend art, history, and community.
Join composer King Friday and poet Arsimmer McCoy in exploring sound and song as carriers of code and liberation.
In this month's workshop, Till It's Done: A Music & Poetry Workshop, participants will explore sound and song as carriers of code, caution, and liberatory instruction.
Participants will be guided through the codes found within call and response, simple blues chords that act as maps, and calls for rebellion and evolution disguised in beloved dance songs. Attendees will work with Arsimmer to craft lyrics and with King to compose a melody, culminating in a final collective song creation—transforming personal experiences and stories into powerful expression.
Workshop materials and refreshments will be provided. Those attending are encouraged to bring personal archival materials and musical instruments to inspire their own process and contribute to the collective.
