This program offers a fun and insightful look at the great Founding Father, including his difficult upbringing, remarkable rise to power, many important contributions to the creation of the United States, and the depiction of Hamilton in the hit Broadway musical.
Dr. Robert Watson will be sharing insights into the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton in advance of the highly acclaimed Broadway musical HAMILTON which returns to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from Nov 10-Nov 22, 2026 as part of the Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Series.
Watson currently serves as Distinguished Professor of American History, Avron Fogelman Research Professor, and Assistant Director of the Center for Citizenship & Civility at Lynn University. He has published nearly fifty books on history and politics, five works of fiction, and hundreds of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, and reference essays. His most recent book “Declaration, The Story of American Independence,” was published in February 2026 in advance of the America 250 celebration.
Other recent books America’s First Crisis, The Nazi Titanic, The Ghost Ship of Brooklyn, George Washington’s Final Battle, Escape, When Washington Burned, and America's First Plague have received critical acclaim. A frequent media commentator, Watson has been interviewed by local, national and international television, radio, print and online outlets including CNN, MSNBC, Time, USA Today, The New York Times, BBC and more. He served for many years as the political analyst for WPTV 5 NBC, a Sunday columnist for the Sun-Sentinel newspaper and a regular guest on television shows “To the Point” (WPTV 5 NBC) and “Issues” (WPBT 2 PBS) and on radio programs on RTE One Ireland, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, WIOD 610 AM and WFTL 850 AM.
Watson has co-convened a half-dozen national conferences on the American presidency and regularly lectures at universities, museums and historic sites around the country. He also serves as the series editor for the long-running scholarly book anthology on the American presidency published by the State University of New York and as the editor of two popular multi-volume, multi-edition encyclopedia sets – The American Presidents and American First Ladies. Several of his books have won national and international book awards and been featured at major literary festivals and on C-SPAN.
