Music has the power to bridge cultures, breaking down barriers and connecting hearts across frontiers.
Yiddish is a resilient language with origins alongside Modern English and German. Despite lacking a defined territory, army, or currency, Yiddish boasts a rich cultural heritage, including a vast body of literature and music traditions, most notably Klezmer music. Originally from Eastern Europe, Yiddish has journeyed to the far corners of the world, including South America, carrying its vibrant cultural essence wherever it goes.
Alejandra Czarny says:
"My own cultural roots are deeply intertwined with both Eastern European and Latin American traditions. As a singer and songwriter, my music reflects this dual heritage, blending the rich, soulful melodies of Yiddish with the passionate rhythms of Latin America. This unique fusion shapes my repertoire, showcasing the harmonious coexistence of these diverse cultural influences.
"The concert will present a curated collection of Yiddish songs, both original and traditional, each infused with Latin American rhythms and genres. Each piece tells a unique story, providing context and background to its significance. The repertoire includes participative songs that highlight my deep personal understanding of the importance of singing in human life, inviting the audience to engage with the music in a meaningful way."
