In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month 2026, Miramar Library will be highlighting the work and life of renowned Chilean-American author Isabel Allende.
My Invented Country is a memoir by Isabel Allende in which she reflects on her homeland of Chile and her experiences as an exile. Allende explores the landscapes and people of her native country, recounts the 1973 assassination of her uncle, and shares her experiences as an immigrant in post-September 11 America. Allende explores the role of memory and nostalgia in shaping her life, her books, and that most intimate connection to her place of origin.
"A stunningly intimate memoir...Allende is that rare writer whose understanding of story matches her mastery of language." - Entertainment Weekly
