Be Alive through Music in celebration of Juneteenth, Black Music Month & Pride!
Broward County African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) presents yearlong Vicennial Celebrations that will span the entire year in 2022!
Broward County Library and The African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) continue their annual tradition of celebrating Juneteenth with our signature program, Be Alive through Music (BAM)!
BAM! It’s Juneteenth - Be Alive through Music (BAM) is our annual celebration of Juneteenth, Black Music Month, and LGBTQ Pride Month. BAM is a series of experiences that highlight musical diversity and the historical intersections of race, gender, and sexuality. Through live performances of music and storytelling, we will celebrate the significance of the month of June to music enthusiasts, members of the queer community, and people of African descent.
Experience AARLCC as you've never seen it. We invite you to our futuristic speakeasy jukejoint! Use password #ArchivesAfterDark to access as we celebrate musical unity with a nostalgic night of cocktails, light bites, music, and dance.
Hosted by Quadeera Teart; with performances by performances by Hued Songs (history & dance), Darius V. Daughtry (rhythm & spoken word); and featured musician avant-garde DJ Nune, Lamar Harris spinning vinyl LPs taking us on a musical expedition of sounds from the Eric Rawlins Record Collection housed in our special collection archive.
'The Eric Rawlins Experience' is an exploration of the archive through live performances and storytelling. Eric Rawlins Record Collection contains nearly 6,000 albums covering jazz, rhythm & blues, hip hop, Latino and gospel music genres. Eric Rawlins was an exhibits coordinator for the Broward County Public Library and served as a second vice president of the Fort Lauderdale branch of the NAACP.
