Genealogy, in general, and lineage societies, in particular, have long been used to keep Black and white communities apart.
Reparative genealogy aims to bring Black and white people together to better understand our shared history of enslavement and the wounds of the past that have resulted in today's 10:1 racial wealth gap. Join this bold discussion and meet Briayna Cuffie and Lotte Lieb Dula, co-founders of Reparations4slavery.com, who will play a clip from a recent PBS documentary that includes their work and introduce attendees to a reparative genealogy toolkit and other online resources they have developed.
Speaker: Lotte Lieb Dula. After discovering that she was a descendant of slaveholders, Lotte, retired financial strategist, co-founded Reparations 4 Slavery, a portal for white families walking the path of direct repair. Lotte collaborates with reparationists nationwide, often focusing on helping white audiences understand the historical context of the racial wealth gap and the need to engage in reparative genealogy. She is a founding donor of Reparations Circle Denver.
Speaker: Briayna Cuffie is the co-founder and equity advisor for the R4S portal. With co-founder Lotte Lieb Dula, she has created a guide to reparative genealogy to assist both Black and white people in tracing their ancestry. Briayna serves her community as a local historian, genealogist, and educator. She works as a strategist, political advocate, and civil servant specializing in international relations from Annapolis, MD.
