In celebration of El Día de los Niños / El Día de los Libros (DÍA), the Tyrone Bryant Branch will present a bilingual literacy and STEM-connected program
for children ages 5–10 that promotes reading comprehension, problem-solving, and equitable access to learning. Participants will engage in a reading of The Three Little Pigs, presented first in English, followed by key scenes revisited in Spanish to strengthen vocabulary development and cross-language comprehension. Guided comparison questions will encourage children to analyze story elements, identify cause-and-effect relationships, and discuss material strength and structural choices.
Following the reading, children will participate in a hands-on building activity in which they design and construct their own houses using construction paper, cardstock, craft sticks, and play dough. This activity reinforces early STEM concepts such as structure, stability, and engineering design while supporting creativity and fine motor development. The program is designed to serve the Tyrone Bryant Branch’s multilingual community by providing culturally inclusive, bilingual programming that supports English-language learners, values home languages, and fosters meaningful family engagement through accessible, hands-on literacy experiences.
