Bio
Dr. Ralph Hogges is a retired professor and administrator of Florida International University and Nova Southeastern University. As a scholar, writer, poet and playwright, he is the author of 16 books and 2 plays. He is a co-founder and former President of The Ralph Hogges, Benjamin Cowins and Delores Smiley Writers Group of South Florida. He is also a co-founder and former President of The Hogges, Cowins and Smiley Book Festival and Writers Conference. He earned his B.S. and M.Ed. at Tuskegee University, the Ed.D. at Nova Southeastern University, and completed post-doctorate studies at the University of Miami and the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education (MLE Certificate).
Visual Arts Entrepreneur
After retiring from Florida International University and Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Hogges decided to focus on his interest and joy of visual arts. As he had done with the appropriate academic preparation, knowledge and wisdom of academia, he chose not only to learn about and master the art and craft of visual art but also to learn about and master the visual arts industry – utilizing the power of self-reliance and self-determination of successful business ownership to help him create his visual arts destiny. In pursuit of that business ownership endeavor, as an Abstract and African Diaspora artist, he studied drawing and oil painting at the Artists at the Falls Art Studio in Miami, Florida. He completed an Oil and Acrylic Painting course with Professor and artist Maribel Cortes at Miami-Dade College’s Kendall Campus. He also had an oil on canvas Master Class with Edel Bordon, a Professor of Painting at the San Alejandro School of Art in Havana, Cuba.
