Voices of Our Neighborhoods is a public art project celebrating the diverse stories of Broward County. Come share your voice!
Voices of Our Neighborhoods is a mobile public art project combining large-scale visual art with community-sourced audio to celebrate the diverse stories of Broward County. At its center is a 12'×7' modular mural made entirely of colored circles and dots, symbolizing unity. Earthy Everglades tones blend into bright ocean blues, with the center reflecting the colors of each Broward district, all anchored by an outlined county map. Community engagement drives the project: residents of all ages will join mural-painting sessions workshops. We will gather 15 personal stories—memories, poems, songs, and spoken word—each paired with a painted wooden cutout of the storyteller’s home, a plexiglass portrait, and a QR code linking to their audio. The mural will debut at the Deerfield Beach Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center on June 5.2026, then travel to at least four libraries each month from July through October 2026.
Please note this is an acrylic paint workshop happening outside, under tents, during Broward County Library's ArtLit 2026 program.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Gabriela Gamperl has called Broward County home since 1994. As a longtime volunteer of the Deerfield Beach Cultural Committee, Gabriela brought the Meet the Master program to elementary schools in Deerfield Beach and co-created Love4Arts, an afterschool initiative blending visual art and music for elementary and middle school youth. Her artistic contributions include several public murals, among them a 2024 sensory mural for Deerfield Beach Elementary's Autism hallway-an interactive space where students can play and explore through art. Gabriela also serves as an art instructor and curator at the Deerfield Beach Historical Society Museum & Cultural Center, where she helps nurture community creativity and exhibitions. Certified as an Art4Healing® facilitator, she leads workshops promoting emotional wellness through art. Extending her mission of healing and connection, she now teaches art in retirement and memory care communities, continuing her lifelong commitment to inspire joy, peace, and creativity through art.
