American Mah Jongg: A game where players try to match the tiles on their boards to the patterns on the score card through picking up and discarding tiles. It is a variant of Chinese Mahjong that was invented in 1923 by John Park Babcock, while he was working in Shanghai. The American variant became fully distinct in 1935 when the National Mah Jongg League Inc. published “Official American Rules.” Today it is a very popular game with players and tournaments throughout the U.S. and Canada. |
