“As the world continues to experience rapid advancements in technology, it’s vital to ensure accessible spaces for older Americans to stay informed and connected,” noted AARP’s Kristin Dillon, Senior Vice President for State and Community Engagement.
On December 4, 2023, the national nonprofit, Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) opened a new Senior Planet Center for older adults ages 50-plus in the vibrant, cultural neighborhood of Wynwood, Miami. As the area’s first American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) funded technology-themed community center for older adults, visitors can get help with technology and learn new skills in a spacious, modern center packed with 72 screens, featuring state-of-the-art computer equipment and Wi-Fi – all free of charge.
The Senior Planet center staff will conduct a series of 12 OATS sessions at the African American Research Center. Computer Basics for Older Adults is funded by AARP. The Senior Planet OATS trainer, Erik Gonzalez will provide these technology sessions for 10 weeks. Our first 2026 session begins Wednesday, 28 January 2026 and continues for 10 weeks through April 8, 2026. Please note that class WILL NOT MEET on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. All participants must be 55 years old or older.
Prerequisite: All participants must have an active Gmail account. If assistance in creating one is needed, please contact the direct line of Senior Planet at 888-713-3495. They will be more than happy to assist.
