Voices of Our Neighborhoods Community Workshop
A Traveling Mural and Soundscape by artist Gabriela Gamperl
Join artist Gabriela Gamperl in a community art workshop in preparation for Voices of Our Neighborhoods mural project. Voices of Our Neighborhoods is a traveling mural and soundscape. The mobile public art project will combine large-scale visual art with community-sourced audio to celebrate the diverse stories of Broward County. Driven by the hope to connect with our communities, the 12-foot mural made of colored circles and dots will symbolize unity. Earthy everglades tones blend into bright ocean blues, with the center reflecting the colors of each Broward district, all anchored by an outlined county map. Residents of all ages will join mural-paining workshops. The mural will include 15 personal stories in the form of memories, poems, songs, and spoken word, each paired with a painted wooden cutout of the storyteller’s home, a plexiglass portrait, and a QR code linking to their audio. The mural will debut at the Deerfield Beach Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center on June 5. 2026 and travel to Broward County Libraries from July though October 2026. This program is sponsored by Broward County Cultural Division and The Community Foundation of Broward.
Gabriela Gamperl – Artist
Born and raised in Switzerland, Gabriela Gamperl has called Broward County home since 1994. After studying drawing and sketching at the Crystal Lake Community School, she began sharing her passion for art through decades of volunteer work in local schools.
As a longtime volunteer of the Deerfield Beach Cultural Committee, Gabriela brought the Meet the Master program to elementary schools in Deerfield Beach and co-created Love4Arts, an afterschool initiative blending visual art and music for elementary and middle school youth. Her artistic contributions include several public murals, among them a 2024 sensory mural for Deerfield Beach Elementary’s Autism hallway—an interactive space where students can play and explore through art.
Gabriela also serves as an art instructor and curator at the Deerfield Beach Historical Society Museum & Cultural Center, where she helps nurture community creativity and exhibitions. Certified as an Art4Healing® facilitator, she leads workshops promoting emotional wellness through art. Extending her mission of healing and connection, she now teaches art in retirement and memory care communities, continuing her lifelong commitment to inspire joy, peace, and creativity through art.
