This series is presented by the Docent Speakers' Bureau of the Nova Southeastern University Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Southwest Regional Library.
The 2024 Season:
January 10 - The Renaissance Greatest Artists: Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Investigates and compares the artwork and personalities of the three greatest artists of all times.
March 13 - Women join the Impressionism Revolution. In celebration of International Women's Day. Looks at six women artists and how they shaped and were shaped by the Impressionism movement.
May 8 - Art of the Idea! in celebration of Broward County Library's 50 Anniversary. Looks at how the turmoil of the 1970's shaped artistic practice continuing the quest to define what art is.
July 10 - Fakers & Filchers. The art world continues to be plagued with forgery and theft. Crimes range from the Nazi looting of Jewish family collections and major
European museums.
September 11 - The Art of the Pre Raphaelites. In the late 19th century, a group of young British artists rebelled against the popular movements emerging in French art production, especially impressionism.
November 11 - Artists in Love. We look at the lives, loves, and artworks of artists married to other artists. Many couples inspired each other while some were lost behind the other's fame.
Please join us for interesting and entertaining art history lectures on famous American and European artists. Please note that each topic may change depending upon the availability of the volunteer lecturers.
