Women Making STEAM invites women/women-identifying professionals to share their impacts and research contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math (STEAM).
Dr. Elizabeth Starling completed her PhD in experimental high energy physics at CERN through the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment. For over ten years, she has been an active researcher in the field of muon detection with Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors, taking a leading role in the installation and commissioning of a series of 144 GEMs as part of the upgrade of the CMS muon system during CERN’s Long Shutdown II. After her PhD, she made the leap from high energy particle physics to fusion and plasma physics – she is now an professor of physics at Florida Atlantic University.
