Baz Luhrmann directs this creative motion picture inspired by Pre-World War One Paris & music from the 20th Century.
An aspiring writer named Christian leaves his bourgeois father during the French belle époque of the late 1890s to seek his fortunes in the bohemian underworld of Montmartre, Paris. There he meets and falls into a doomed romance with the courtesan Satine, who becomes the star of the play he is writing.
Nicole Kidman was Oscar nominated for her role as Satine. Ewan McGregor portrays Christian and John Leguizamo is Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Costarring Jim Broadbent and Richard Roxburgh. Like the 1952 film of the same name, this 2001 film won Oscars for Best Art Direction in Color and Costume.
