Broward County Library is hosting a Ukrainian themed poetry celebration. Ukrainian poets will discuss the history of Ukrainian poetry and read their poems.
Broward County Library (BCL) is hosting a Ukrainian themed poetry celebration. BCL will feature subject matter experts discussing the history of Ukrainian poetry and its impact. Furthermore, Ukrainian poets will read some of their poems.
Panelist One - Iya Yanivna Kiva
Iya Yanivna Kiva (another spelling - Ija Kiva) (Ukrainian; born May 4, 1984) is a Ukrainian poet, translator, journalist, and critic. She is the author of the books, Further from Heaven, The First Page of Winter, and We Will Wake Up to Others: Conversations with Contemporary Belarusian Writers on the Past, Present and Future of Belarus. She is a member of PEN Ukraine. Kiva writes in Ukrainian and Russian.
Panelist Two - Daryna Gladun
Daryna Gladun (born in 1993) is an award winning poet, conceptual artist and translator from Ukraine. She writes in Ukrainian and English. Her poems have been translated into 27 world languages. She is the author of three poetry collections and numerous artworks exhibited in numerous European countries. Daryna participated in International Literary and Art Festivals, Art Residences, Fellowship and Scholarship Programs in Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Latvia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA. Daryna Gladun is currently studying Creative Writing at the MALS program of Dartmouth College.
Panelist Three - Oksana Lutsyshyna
Oksana Lutsyshyna is a Ukrainian writer, translator, and poet, author of three novels, collection of short stories, and five books of poetry, the latest of them published in the English translation in 2019 (Persephone Blues, Arrowsmith). For her latest novel, now forthcoming in English from Dep Vellum Publishing, Ivan and Phoebe, she was awarded Lviv City of Literature UNESCO Prize (2020) and the Taras Shevchenko National Award in fiction (2021). She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Ukrainian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she teaches the Ukrainian language and Eastern European literatures in translation.
