Join us for a film screening and discussion of "The Grand Lady", a documentary film on the history of The Hollywood Beach Hotel.
Pass Story of Diaspora Forward, Inc. (PSDF) in conjunction with the Hollywood Historical Society (HSS), recently received the 2022 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Regional Emmy® Awards for the Documentary, “The Grand Lady,” charting the story of The Hollywood Beach Hotel!
The film tells the fascinating story of the Hollywood Beach Hotel — also known as the 90-Day Wonder for being built in three months, at a time when resources were scarce, and also delves into the larger story of historic preservation today.
Originally part of an ongoing Lecture Series produced in Hollywood by the HSS, The Grand Lady is the brainchild of Richard Quadracci, Executive Producer and Hollywood resident, who felt that the story of the hotel, which had been extensively researched and presented by Hollywood Historical Society President Clive Taylor, deserved a larger audience. On film, it morphed into a larger tale of perseverance; the grandeur of Florida in the early days of the 20th century; and the state of historic preservation of Landmark buildings worldwide.
The Mission of Pass Story of Diaspora Forward, Inc., is to increase consciousness, education and knowledge of the story of the African Diaspora for people of America and the World, to foster understanding and tolerance for culture.
