Coral Restoration Foundation™ is the world’s largest marine-conservation, non-profit organization dedicated to restoring coral reefs to a healthy state, both in Florida and globally. Often referred to as "rainforests of the sea," coral reef ecosystems are one of the most biodiverse in the world and a critical component of life in the ocean. This presentation educates on the importance of coral to the global environment, causes of degradation, restoration practices, and inspires action that can be made to protect our oceans.

ABOUT FLORIDA'S CORAL REEF
Running from north of Miami down to Key West in the south, lies Florida's Coral Reef - the third largest barrier reef system in the world. Once dominated by two species of reef-building coral, staghorn (Acropora cervicornis) and elkhorn (Acropora palmata), Florida's Coral Reef now hosts just two percent of these populations from what it had in the 1970s. These became some of the first corals to be included on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species, and are both now listed as “Critically Endangered” – one step away from a listing of “Extinct in the Wild.”
