As part of resident artist Allison Bolah's installation project, join us for a film showing and discussion of "The Truman Show," starring Jim Carrey.
What is our fascination with watching each other -- and ourselves? Released almost 20 years before TikTok, 1998’s The Truman Show explores one man's struggle to be in a world where his every moment, his every "choice" is choreographed for the viewer's pleasure.
Enjoy the show and follow up discussion with Allison Bolah, The Storefront's May/June Artist-in-Residence.
Allison’s interdisciplinary practice draws on her experiences in literature and photography; in installations of video, sound, and paper-based objects, she documents the ways that gesture and language are shaped into specific narratives. Allison focuses on her work’s dialogues within her African Diasporic and other communities. Thus, she seeks opportunities to share her work in non-traditional spaces. Allison was born in Alberta, Canada and lives in South Florida. She received her MFA in Visual Studies from Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
