Children learn the achievements of the amazing tennis-playing sisters Venus and Serena Williams and the physics involved in the game of tennis. Sponsored by the Broward Public Library Foundation.
Students work together in STEAM Teams to promote kindness and unity in working with others to complete the challenge and practice public speaking and communication skills when sharing their designs. During each lesson, students visit a cross-curricular destination, and engage in collaborative, inquiry-based, student-driven learning grounded in real-world connections, meaningful problem-solving, and social-emotional learning. Each destination/ lesson uses collaboration, problem solving and the Challenge Island STEAM building steps to engineer and build using the materials provided.
Champion Sisters Court- Students will learn about the life and achievements of the amazing tennis-playing sisters Venus and Serena Williams. Students will learn about the game of tennis and how these sisters became great through unity and the role of friendship in sports. After exploring the physics involved in the game of tennis, including Newton’s First Law of Motion, the students will design and construct a tabletop tennis game. Game, set, and match!
