Dive into the rich history of the sugar skull tradition and face paint a sugar skull design of your own.
November 1st and 2nd are the days when “Dia de los Muertos” or All Saint Days is celebrated in Mexico as well as other countries. One symbol of this holiday are the Sugar Skulls which represent loved ones who have departed. Sugar cookies in the shape of skull decorated by the children are placed in the altars as an offering to their loved ones who are believed to visit on these two days.
As part of the celebrations, people paint their faces with colorful designs and dress in intricate costumes. In this class, students will learn the history as they are guided to face paint a sugar skull design of their own.
