Join us for a unique opportunity to tour AARLCC Special Collections before the Reveal the Beauty: The Literature and Art of the Harlem Renaissance exhibit opening reception. During the tour, you will see rare and historic items up close, meet the archival staff, and learn about how students, scholars, and the public are using the collections in their original research.
The AARLCC Special Collections contain archival materials documenting the history and culture of people of African, African American, and Caribbean descent. Strengths of the collections include the history of Black librarianship in the United States, Black literature in the African diaspora, photography, and Broward County’s Black history. The AARLCC Special Collections consist of more than 9,000 books and periodicals; collections of 20th-century African artifacts; artwork by Haitian, Jamaican, and African American artists; audiovisual materials encompassing more than 6,000 vinyl record albums and multiple oral history collections; and over 1,000 linear feet of manuscript and photograph collections.
AARLCC Special Collections is one of three repositories in the Broward County Library Special Collections department along with the Broward County Historical Archives and the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book.
Space on the tours is limited and registration is required.
