Please join us in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month for an engaging panel discussion on the disparities in healthcare among black women.
According to a recent study funded by the National Institute of Health, statistics show that black women are three and a half times more likely to die from childbirth complications than women of other ethnic groups and have a significantly higher infant mortality rate in comparison to their counterparts. Black women also experience higher rates of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and other health related issues while having to deal with implicit biases when it comes to seeking medical treatment.
In honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Broward County Libraries has teamed up with a panel of experts from Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System for a candid discussion about the issues and disparities black women are facing in healthcare today.
This event is part of the “Break the Bias” series of events for Women’s History Month 2022 hosted by Broward County Library. For information and to register for other events in this series, please visit Women’s History Month programs.
