Celebrate Family History Month by sharing a family heirloom during our regular monthly meeting.
We invite you to share heirlooms and the stories behind them passed down in your family. Make family history come alive!
A family heirloom can be anything that has been passed down from an earlier generation, and it doesn’t have to be what we think of as an heirloom. Some are treasures in the most literal sense, valuable antiques that could sell for many thousands of dollars. Others have strictly sentimental value, but the fact that they’re not worth much money doesn’t make them any less beloved. Family heirlooms can be many generations old, or a more recent item inherited from a parent or grandparent that will be passed along in the future. Most importantly, family heirlooms conjure memories of the special people who passed them along to us.
Heirlooms can include jewelry, timepieces, furniture, recipes, letters, diaries, scrapbooks, Bibles and other books, military memorabilia, quilts, collections, home or land deeds or photographs, wedding gowns and other vintage clothing, cedar chests or hope chests or trunks, musical instruments, photos or wedding albums, yearbooks, kitchenware, handiwork, embroidered linens, art, or written stories.
Please register to attend in-person or online via Zoom. https://gsbcfl.org/ To participate by bringing an item or submitting a photo of the item to display and discuss, please complete & submit the online GSBC Heirloom Participation Form by September 15, 2024. (Note: No appraisals, no buying or selling, just a fun time.)
This program offers a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to our family's legacy and establish fresh connections with fellow history enthusiasts. I'm hopeful that this event will kindle our imaginations, unveil the unique stories within our family histories and offer our members and guests some valuable tips and insights during the Q & A session. Member participation makes this an invaluable learning experience.
