Chair Yoga to improve health, concentration, flexibility, balance, and strength while feeling relaxed, energized, and uplifted.
Adults, new adults, and seniors are welcome to the program.
The African roots of Kemetic Yoga are a type of yoga developed by ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago. Humans have been practicing yoga for thousands of years. Today, yoga has many distinctive styles. One of them is chair yoga, which will help to improve balance and flexibility, and overall health and wellness. Many may not know that Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, and Tina Turner also practiced yoga. Stephanie Y. Evans, a professor at Georgia State University, wrote a book called Black Women’s Yoga History: Memoirs of Inner Peace (SUNY Press, 2021), which includes the personal self-care stories of dozens of black women, including Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, and Tina Turner. Even if someone has never done yoga before or attended other exercise classes, AARLCC is inviting you to the library's community Chair Yoga sessions, which can help to improve balance and flexibility. Please bring your own yoga mat, if you prefer, or else the instructor will provide the mats. Hope to see you all in the program. For more information about yoga or other topics, visit the library system in person or online at https://www.broward.org/Library/Pages/Default.aspx
About the African American Research Library and Cultural Center
