Dr. Byrd came to South Florida in 1999 to teach at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Byrd was recently named Fellow in Intercultural Engagement, a position that works to promote diversity, racial equality and equity on Palm Beach Atlantic University’s campus. He served as 2011-2013 president of the North American African American Caucus, Academy of Homiletics. Byrd was the recipient of the Omicron Upsilon Lambda Chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Post-Secondary Educator of the Year Award. His first full-length book, I Shall Not Be Moved was an international bestseller. His second book, in second print, By This Shall We Be Known: Interpreting the Voice and Message of Dr. King , Jr. 50th Year Edition.
Dr. Byrd will discuss book chapters from his work "By this Shall We be Known", drawing connections between Dr. King’s words and our current socio-political climate.
