This Black History Month special will feature songs by Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and many more!
This program is presented by South Florida Instrumentalist and Composer, Emily Isabel Kennedy.
Ms. Kennedy performs various genres because she claims music can be powerful and healing in any culture, and she has experienced this in her own life. South Florida provides a vibrant and diverse backdrop for her musical aspirations. She has played in various ensembles and in many venues. Along with her playing, she has composed songs that are relevant in today’s world. She states that her goal is to play and compose music that inspires. She graduated with Honors from Broward College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 2020. In 2023, she graduated Cum Laude from Nova University with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, Instrumental Performance. After graduation, she played free of charge at after school programs, community centers, and preschools as a way to give back to the community.
