Suzie Alvey is a freelance artist who works in oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor. Program sponsored by the Friends of the Galt Ocean Mile Reading Center. Light refreshments will be served.
Her paintings are in many private collections in the United States and Europe, including those of best-selling author, Nelson DeMille and in public collections such as the Garden City Village Hall and Public Library in New York. Alvey has participated in solo and group art shows in New York and Florida.
Suzie became a juried member of the Art League of Nassau County in 1987 and was the publicity board member for eight years. She has won a number of art show awards over the years at the National Art League, where she has been a juried member. She's also won prizes at the ALNC and the Independent Art Society. She is a photographer and won a 2013 "Town of Hempstead Calendar Contest Shutterbug Award" and the Cathedral of the Incarnation calendar for 2017.
Suzie moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2018 where she has been a board member of the Gold Coast Watercolor Society and a member of the Broward Art Guild. She conducted an art workshop for the Broward Art Guild.
Ms. Alvey has studied with Dan Slapo, PSA Master Pastelist (Pastel Society of America) in New York; Howard Rose (oils) in New York and Abel Marquez, PSA Master Pastelist in Florida.
In 2012 Suzie was awarded the "President's Volunteer Service Award" from President Barak Obama for "extraordinary charity work." Suzie won NYS Assemblyman McKevitt’s “Women of Distinction Award” in his district in 2009. Suzie graduated SUNY Albany with a BA in Studio Art.
